Links/Arachnological
From British Arachnological Society
< Links
When I first produced this page there were very few WWW Sites dealing with any aspects of arachnology, spiders or biological recording. However, not surprisingly, spiders are living very well on the "Web" and a search of the search engine Lycos gives well over 200 references. I am therefore restricting this list now to the most important site for all aspects of Arachnology, which itself maintains a long list of links to other spider sites.
- Arachnology: The Study of arachnids
- Originally produced by Herman Vanuytven in Belgium and again now hosted by Herman
- This gives information on all aspects of arachnology and is an invaluable resource in the study of spiders and their allies.
- Arachnological Societies now part of the above site, but worth a link of its own.
- This is probably one of the most comprehensive sites, listing Arachnological Societies throughout the world, including information on the BAS.
- American Arachnological Society
- The American Arachnological Society (AAS) was founded in August 1972 to promote the study of arachnids, to achieve closer cooperation and understanding between amateur and professional arachnologists, and to publish the Journal of Arachnology. The Society also sponsors annual meetings and cooperates with other professional societies. Membership is open to all individuals interested in the Society's objectives.
- Arachno Web
- Originally based upon the Arachnology Web-site produced by Herman Vanuytven, this arachnological resource is operated by the International Society of Arachnology (ISA).
- ARABEL (Arachnologia Belgica)
- This site run by Herman Vanuytven is the Belgian Arachnological Society's web-site - currently only in Dutch.
- The Biological Records Centre for the UK
- Based at Wallingford. A partner with the B.A.S. in the production of the Atlas of Spiders.
- Black Widow Spiders of Medical Importance
- A website produced by Prof. Louis Caruana of Southwest Texas State University, dealing with the medical aspects of black widow spiders and other poisonous spider, including a list of useful links
- The British Tarantula Society
- Established in 1985, the BTS is dedicated to the conservation, enhancement and spread of knowledge in keeping tarantulas.
- The European Society of Arachnology
- The European Society of Arachnology supports the study of arachnology, promotes the development of this science and facilitates exchanges between researchers or institutes. Annual meetings are held in Europe, except in the years the International Congress of Arachnology is held.
- Families of British Spiders
- Interactive facilities for identification and information retrieval at family level, with fairly detailed descriptions illustrated via scans from Blackwall and relevant introductory material (including nomenclatural updating for all Blackwall's plates).
- Grupo Ibérico de Aracnología
- A site dealing with the arachnids of the Iberian Peninsula (in Spanish)
- International Society of Arachnology
- An important international scientific society devoted to arachnology. ISA focuses on the arachnid orders Amblypygi, Araneae, Opiliones, Palpgradi, Pseudoscorpiones, Ricinulei, Schizomida, Scorpiones, and Uropygi, but not Acari. Currently ISA has about 600 members from 66 countries.
- Magyar Arachnológia
- A new site for the Arachnology of Hungary (in Hungarian).
- XXVII International Congress of Arachnology
- The Home Page of the Congress held in Sao Paulo from August 5-10th 2007
